I came across an internet article that talks about the link between insufficient sleep to obesity among kids. While the research and article basically talks about insufficient sleep and obesity among kids, I can personally attest that lack of sleep can slower our metabolism thus making us fatter.
When I first started going to the gym, one of the first thing that my trainer told me is to try to get enough sleep. I didn’t because I can’t, mostly because I was still an employee then and my boss requires from us a very challenging work hours. My weight loss was really slow, in fact, while I built my endurance, I didn’t really lose any weight on the first month of going to the gym. Project 168 felt like an impossible task then. However, when I left my former employer and put up my own company, I had the pleasure of having a more manageable time, and I notice that trying to lose weight is not as difficult anymore.
In fact, the National Sleep Foundation also stated sleep deprivation as one of the major cause of obesity.
So the next time you want to lose weight, try to get enough sleep. Make sure that its just enough and don’t oversleep.
